SRI GURUPURNIMA CELEBRATION

 

Today the 2nd of July'04,the Holy Sri Guru Purnima was observed on the Holy banks of mother Ganga and the Holy abode of most worshipful and most revered GurudevSriSwami Sivanandaji Maharaj , with great devotion and dedication by the devotees who had flown in from all over the world.

4.30 A.M

The day begin with an early morning (4.30 am) Brahma Muhurta prayers with Sadguru Paduka Sthrotram, Sivananda Yogindra Sthuti and meditation conducted by Revered Swami Devbhaktanandaji of DLS Headquarters Ashram. The meditation session followed with discourses. Revered Swami Vimalanandaji Maharaj while addressing the devotees present , said that the Guru Puja is an essential part in the process of evolution for very spiritual aspirant. Swamiji also talked about how Gurudev lead his life and shown to us the path to follow.

Revered Swami Atmaswaroopanandaji Maharaj speaking on the occasion said that Guru is God to the aspirant, by surrendering the entire responsibility to Guru, the aspirant will lead the life peacefully and Guru with his grace will take the aspirant to the goal of his life. The only thing an aspirant required to do is to have utmost faith in Guru. This is the only qualification required from an aspirant, such is the grace of Guru.

H.H Sri Swami Yogaswaroopanandaji Maharaj, Vice President- DLS Headquarters, in his blessing address said that there are four E's one needs to develop in order to efface the Ego (the fifth "E ").They are Ethical, Emotional, Economical values along with Emancipation. A proper understanding, control and practice of these values of life will help an aspirant to reach the goal of life.

H.H Sri Swami Nirliptanandaji Maharaj, Vice President- DLS Headquarters, in his blessing address spoke on the significance of Guru Parampara. Swamiji said that Lord NARAYANA is the Adiguru followed by Vyasa Maharshi anincarnation of Lord NARAYANA, who had written the teachings in to four Vedas and eighteen Puranas and Brahmasutras, Gaudapada andJagatguru Adishankaracharya and now in our generation our beloved Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharj. We are fortunate to have our revered Gurudev from that Guru Parampara and by strictly adhering to his instructions we can achieve our goal of life.

6.00 A.M

Thereafter, there was Prabhat Pheri(Nagar Sankirtan), the procession with chanting of Divine name in and around Sivanndanagar. The devotees participated in large number in Prabhat Pheri and the entire atmosphere is filled with vibrations of the chanting and is felt by one and all.

8.00 A.M

A special Havan was conducted at the Yajnashala of Sri Viswanath Mandir for the welfare of Mankind and World Peace.

8.30 A.M

A special worship puja was offered to Gurudev at the Holy Samadhi Mandir and "Om Namo Narayanaya" mantra chanting was organised and the devotees took part in the chanting with their heart and soul.

9.00 A.M

The most important and sacred activity of the day, the PADUKA PUJA was performed with great devotion and respect to Gurudev, which signifies the grand worship of the Sandals of most worshipful and most revered Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj, at a specially erected and beautifully decorated huge pandal in the ashram. Invocations were made and prayers were offered on behalf of the devotees who had made special written requests for the occasion as well as the devotees present for the function. All the senior Swamijis, Sadhaks and devotees from allover the world participated in the puja and took blessings and Prasad of Gurudev. Speaking on the occasion H.H. Swami Nirliptanandaji Maharaj said that the devotees who took some time out from their busy life to be here are blessed by Gurudev and thanked all of them for the pains taken in coming for the celebrations. Later, Swamiji has released a couple of books both in hindi and english, printed in Divine Life Society's YVFA Press along with a couple of CDs in memory of the occasion.

4.00 P.M

The late afternoon session started with discourse by Proff. Growerji, Registrar- YVFA Academy. He said Gurudev's life is a message by itself where in Gurudev showed how he practiced Karma Yoga through selfless service, to efface the ego and how the Yoga of Synthesis and Gurudev's twenty spiritual points will be helpful for one to realise.

Some of the devotees who are closely associated with Gurudev, shared their experiences on how they were guided and how Gurudev's blessings worked wonders in their lives which was listened with rapt attention by all the devotees who had attended the session.

Revered Swami Padmanabhanandaji Maharaj gave a discourse on significance of Brahma Sutras and in his able guidance the Brahmacharis of the Ashram recited Vedic Chanting which electrified the atmosphere with spiritual vibrations.

6.00 P.M

H.H. Sri Swami Chindanandaji Maharaj has blessed the devotees through a video talk which was recorded at Shanti Nivas, Dehradun, India where Revered Swamiji is recovering from an illness because of which he could not give darshan to the devotees.

7.30 P.M

The night Satsanga started with Bhajans and kirtans by Brahmacharis and some of the devotees who took part in the celebration as a humble seva to the beloved Gurudev.
