If one has ever been in the presence of great sages when they speak, one has the feeling that they are not talking from a point of view based on personal memory. They seem to speak spontaneously and effortlessly-without hesitation or doubt. Even if they are speaking on a subject on which one has heard them speak a number of times, there is the feeling that something new is issuing forth every time their attention is directed to that subject. It seems to the observer as if these great ones are empty vessels through which something very profound-even infinite-is speaking, and each time That is heard, it is new and fresh and deep. One who hears such a discourse, if he or she is in the right place to receive, can be moved and instructed in a most significant way. Discourses from a great saint are different than those heard from a person not endowed with that same level of lofty consciousness. The saint speaks to the heart of the listener and can open something up in him or her that can be life altering. We are providing here talks by Swami Sivananda, Swami Chidananda and Swami Krishnananda as well as by other senior monks of this Ashram. The discourses are from various occasions, in front of different audiences-either in the Ashram or to groups outside, and have to do with a range of topics. Even though the topics of the talks may be diverse, and they may come from different sources and have particular styles, the ultimate goal of each is the same, namely to direct the listener towards God-realisation. |
