EARLY MORNING TALK
By H.H. Sri Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj
Given at The Sacred Samadhi Shrine, on October 8, 2003

Worshipful homage unto Thee, Thou all-transcending, cosmic Reality, Thou who art the great, eternal and all-pervading Supreme Spirit, the Supreme Being, the Supreme non-dual, supra-cosmic Reality, the Brahman of the Upanishads, the Supreme Tao, Thou who hast created not only the human world and human beings, but Thou who has created even the celestials in heaven. For all the three worlds – the nether regions below, this human world, and the heavenly world – they dissolve and disappear in your imponderable infinity, when the cycle of four yugas is completed, and the great Pralaya occurs; then all the three worlds are absorbed back into the Pralaya-Jal, the great Cosmic Waters.

To which reference is made in the beginning of the Durga Saptasiti scripture, which was being read every night during the nine nights’ special worship of the Divine Mother – Devi: manifest as Durga, manifest as Lakshmi, manifest as Saraswati. So, out of the nine nights, seven nights this scripture was read in a certain systematic pattern. Certain chapters for the first day, certain number of chapters for the second day, certain number of chapters third day. It refers to Lord Vishnu, Narayana, reclining upon His maha-shesha, alone, non-dual, nothing existed at that time, creation had not yet commenced; and in all directions of the compass, nothing was seen except the Cosmic Waters. It is to that Supreme Being, in Whom everything becomes dissolved at the end of the cycle of four yugas – Krita Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga, this present Iron Age in which we are now living. You are that stupendous Being who makes forth many universes to issue forth from you, who makes many universes to issue forth from you; He makes these universes to function in your infinity. And when you will, in your divine will, “Enough! Let me now wind up this process, this play” – when the Divine Will wills thus, then the whole cosmic drama of creation and preservation ends with dissolution.

And, it is the Adi-Narayana who prevails. Not Vishnu, one of the Trinity, but the Adi-Narayana. To that Adi-Narayana, we bow down in reverence. In reverence. Reverential salutations and loving adorations to revered and beloved Holy Master Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. He has taught us all these things through His wisdom teachings, and even more. Even more. Teachings even beyond this. To Him, our salutations and prostrations. May the Divine Grace of the Supreme Parat Para Para-Brahma, the supreme, non-dual, infinite, timeless, faceless, eternal Being – let the Divine Grace of that Eternal Being, and let the choicest benedictions and blessings of Holy Master Gurudev Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj be upon you all.

And may God and Gurudev grant you discrimination, the power of spiritual enquiry; dispassion – vairagya – viveka, vichara, vairagya; the spirit of renunciation, tyaga-bhav; and intense devotion to the ideal of God-realization, intense devotion to that great ideal; and a keen aspiration to attain that by leading a spiritual, divine life. A divine life of truthfulness, divine life of compassion and kindness towards all God’s creation, and a divine life of chastity, purity. Purity from the top of your head to the tip of your toenails, in thought, word and deed, in everything that you do. May your entire life be a hundred percent complete manifestation of purity, and purity alone! May you become an embodiment of purity, a very personification of purity. May such a blessing be bestowed upon you. May you all be given the gift of a divine life.

It has been given! Therefore it is that you are in this place. This is the source of the divine life. Like Gangotri is the source of the river, Ganga, this is the very udpatisthana, udbhavasthala, see, the very source of a divine life. So, we are all indeed fortunate that so much of grace has been poured upon us by God; so much of blessings has been bestowed upon us by Holy Master, Gurudev Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. May we contemplate them, and may we always be thinking, “How can I make myself worthy of this divine endowment? How can I make myself worthy of such Guru-Kripa, such blessings poured upon us by the Holy Master?” With this intention may we live an ideal life, and attain the goal, great goal, in this very life.
