There once was a time when the only way to convey the
teachings of the saints was either by direct testimony-through repeating
what was said verbally-or in the form of printed books. That was certainly
adequate, and as long as one had access to direct testimony or books,
nothing was lacking. However, in this age of advanced technology there
are many other opportunities to come into contact with teachings of enlightenment.
Having passed through the technological wave which brought us LP records,
reel to reel tapes and later cassettes, we are now moving more into the
age of CDs, streaming audio and video, and digital pictures. These new
high-tech formats now make the teachings available to many more people
around the world who would otherwise not have access.
The question might arise, "Isn't it ironic or somehow
odd that we are reading, seeing or hearing these ancient teachings in
such a ultra-modern way? Doesn't that somehow detract from the validity
because of the way we are receiving them?" This point of view may
assume that the teachings can only come through a particular approach,
presented in a traditional manner and arranged in a familiar system. Each
new vehicle for wisdom is novel and unfamiliar at its inception, but after
some time it is accepted and then employed to the maximum degree. One
should therefore not be reticent about taking advantage of this wonderful
opportunity, in the form of knowledge provided in these new and innovative
ways.
In this 'Multimedia' section one will find the streaming
audio, streaming video, and digital pictures mentioned earlier, as well
as wallpaper that can be downloaded for one's computer. The talks, images
and bhajans of Swami Sivananda, Swami Chidananda and Swami Krishnananda
are provided here for your instruction and benefit.
