Sadhaka : In what way the guru induces spirituality in the disciple?

Gurudev : Spiritual knowledge is a matter of guru-parampara - it is handed down from guru to disciple. The guru can transform the disciple by a look, by a touch, a thought, a word or by mere willing. The guru blesses, guides and inspires the disciple. He transmutes his spiritual power to him. He transforms and spiritualise him. Even his presence is elevating, inspiring and stirring His very company is Self-illuminating. He need not teach anything. He is the gateway to the transcendental Truth-Consciousness. But it is the aspirant that has to enter through it. The guru is help, but the actual task of practical sadhana falls on the aspirant himself.

The guru teaches through his personal example. The day-to-day conduct of the guru is a living ideal to the disciple who is observant. The life of the guru is a living sermon to the sincere disciple. The student can imbibe or draw from his teacher in proportion to his degree of faith.

Guru may appear in a dream, and initiate and inspire you at the proper time.

Swamiji: Guru-kripa (grace of the guru) is undeniably a divine force that can turn even a stone into the infinite Sat-Chid-ananda (Existence-Consciousness-Bliss Absolute). Guru is always gracious; but then, guru-kripa is not only to be bestowed, but it is also to be received. In receiving it, we divinise ourselves.

Lord Jesus said : "Seek and it shall be found, knock and it shall open unto you; ask and it shall be given." It is not as though there is any dearth of Divine munificence, Divine grace or guru-kripa. But there is a law that we have to ask, we have to seek, we have to knock; and having done it we must be ready to receive it.

Guru-krupa is something spiritual, something mysterious that gives the highest thing for which human life is here. Discipleship is in qualifying ourselves to attain that highest State.

The effulgence of the guru is his teachings. These constitute real guru-kripa. They constitute the light that illuminates our path and shows clearly the Goal.
